🧡 In Pursuit of Pleasure: All Work and No Play?

Jessica Otieno | JUN 28, 2024

Hi! It’s Jess here. What a week!?!

Have you ever paused to reflect on what’s showing up for you? You’ve probably heard the saying, “Lessons will keep repeating themselves until they are learned.” I find this to be true, and it often makes me wonder: Do we wait for these “Lessons” to hit us hard, or do we engage in proactive reflection to grasp these lessons earlier on the path?

Recently, I’ve been revisiting the concept of Joy, as shared in a previous blog post. Today, I find myself drawn to exploring “Pleasure.”

Self-Inquiry Prompt: Take a moment to reflect — when was the last time you experienced pure pleasure, the kind that lights up your being from within? How often do you allow yourself to truly feel good, beyond the constraints of obligation and routine?

During recent Aura Readings, I observed a pattern: a reversed sacral chakra linked to a lack of fun or pleasure, often overshadowed by a life of obligation. This made me dive deeper into the role of the sacral chakra, traditionally associated with creativity, sensuality, and how we flow with life’s challenges.

This past week, I started digging more deeply through my plethora of resources, researching and studying up on chakras to develop my own chakra guides. There are different schools of thought, of course. There are different interpretations that have arisen over the years and I have started to notice how the different interpretations and schools of thought have actually somewhat become entangled and even taken out of their original context. One of the aspects I’ve been seeking more clarity on has been the sacral chakra, which is where pleasure shows up.

While it's easy to equate the sacral area with sexuality due to its location, I invite you to consider pleasure in its own right — as a distinct, enriching experience that permeates your whole being, different from joy, which often feels centered in your heart and head. Consider the pleasure you feel quite viscerally of sitting in a hot bubble bath and how you feel that sensation all over. As I’ve sat with this inquiry myself, it made me look beyond joy, and, despite others’ interpretations of the sacral chakra, also beyond sexuality/sensuality.

This week, I had another beautiful and transformative massage session with Maha Taylor from @Psychosomatic_Recovery. Our discussion revealed to me how much my inner child craves fun and pleasure, which I had been neglecting (among other things!). Throughout the massage, the overwhelming message I received (from my higher self and my inner child) was how fulfilling it feels to simply let pleasure in — feeling good in every cell of my body without it being tied to sexuality or sensuality.

It made me question: Why do we often block ourselves from feeling good? Why do we choose to carry tension, pain, or stress? For me, it feels almost like a subconscious shield against potential threats.

This weekend, I encourage you to join me in this exploration of pleasure. We have a busy schedule with Aura & Chakra mini-readings at Heart Soul and Art on Saturday, Kundalini, Hatha, and Yin Yoga classes, and our usual lineup of classes next week with our wonderful team of teachers! Don’t forget our July Sip & Share this coming Monday — it’s a great opportunity to connect and discuss these themes further!

If you’re struggling to find joy or pleasure in your daily life, remember, our studio offers Aura Readings, Reiki sessions (for yourself or your pet!), Bio-Mat session, Bio-Well Full Before & After Scan set together with a customized Bio-Cor, Coaching, and Private Yoga/Meditation Session. Reach out — don’t tweak out! Let us help you rediscover the pleasure in life. It’s there, sometimes hidden, but always accessible.

Here’s to finding pleasure in the simplest of moments and embracing the full spectrum of life’s offerings. 🌸

Warmly, xoxo

Jess
